Kali Kava™ is Pioneering America’s Kava Growing Industry
“Quality Kava is a process. It’s not a ‘Noble’ cultivar or the specialized terroir of the South Pacific, nor is it the secret traditional growing methods. It’s an entire process that starts with genetics and ends with the finished beverage. Everything in-between these two endpoints, determines the quality of the Kava.’
-Kali Kava™ Founder
The future of American Kava cultivation is here! We are innovators of the world’s first Kava varieties that have been adapted to grow in California and Florida’s unique microclimates. Though acclimation, adaptation and an accelerated natural selection process, we’ve created genetically unique varieties that are well-suited for growing in California and Florida’s 9B-11A USDA zones. Our goal is to produce the finest Kava varieties on Earth and establish California and Florida as the next specialty Kava growing regions. We have eight varieties in tissue culture development and are currently taking orders for 1,000 plant minimums to qualified farmers.
Our California Adapted Kava Genetics
Our Kali-Kava™ California adapted Kava varieties have undergone extensive acclimation, adaptation and an accelerated selection process, which has lead to significant alterations in gene expressions in over 138 genes. The result is the creation of varieties that are able to tolerate temperature extremes from 38F to 115F in 10% humidity and full sun. Our varieties are characterized as having altered phenotypes presenting smaller leaves and a bushy appearance with a multitude of shoots at the base. 18 month old plants planted in double density (25,000 per HA) and grown in full sun generally yield 2-4lbs of fresh green kava with high potency lateral roots making up more than 60% of the total root mass. The most conservative estimate equates to 10,000kgs of DRIED kava per hectare in 18 months. That’s the power of Kali-Kava™ !

Analytical Testing and Quality Controls on our Genetics
We strive to provide the best genetics possible with predictable potency and chemotypes. We have extensively tested our plants at 18 and 24 months harvests to ensure that we are retaining the desirable qualities that make Kava enjoyable as a beverage and as a potential therapeutic product.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this. The recent heat wave in Northern California has reached extreme temperatures of 115F (45.5C) and brought with it, a dryness that few outside of the Sahara desert would know. Unfortunately, Kali Kava plants have met their match and wilted over and died. The heat was …
Above is a baby Kali Kava™ Kali Kea plantlet that has been regenerated from a nodal meristem. It is growing in a sterile nutrient rich agar and took 4 months to go from a pinhead sized meristem, to this impressive 3mm tall Jack and the Beanstalk monster! In all seriousness, this took A LOT of …
